Activate your SWITCHdrive account

Description

SWITCHdrive is an academic cloud hosting service (such as DropBox or Google Drive), provided by SWITCH, based on OwnCloud, and free of charge for UNIL users (with an UNIL account).

Because data are stored in Switzerland, its use is authorised by UNIL to store professional data, contrary to other data storage services such as DropBox or Google Drive.

Every user gets 100 GB of storage space. Even if this service is independant of UNIL, if you leave UNIL, your SWITCHdrive account will be deleted.

Steps

Create your account

  1. Select Université de Lausanne in the list.
  2. Enter your UNIL credentials and log in.
  3. The site shows you your Données requises par le service (data used by the service), select Accepter.
  4. In the middle of the page, click on Register for SWITCHdrive.
  5. Create a new password (this password is not linked to your UNIL account), check the terms and conditions and click on register.
  6. Your account is created and its details are shown in the grey box. To change your password, select Change password under the welcome message.
  7. In the middle of the page, click on Go to SWITCHdrive.

Connect to your account

  1. Enter your SWITCHdrive account credentials:
    1. Username : your UNIL email address
    2. Password : the password you created before (this is not your UNIL password, unless you used the same)
  2. You are now on the main SWITCHdrive page.

Installation instructions

You can download and install SWITCHdrive on your devices in order to access your files from anywhere (computer, phone, tablet). To do this, please follow the instructions (fr) of the IT Center of UNIL.

SWITCHdrive works the same as other hosting services and create a “switchdrive” folder locally on your computer.
