Physician and Head of the addiction medicine Service

with an Associate or Full Professor title in the field of psychiatric and somatic addictions

The Service of addiction medicine (SMA) is one of the Department of psychiatry’s (DP) core missions, with the aim of preventing and treating addiction-related disorders. The research conducted within this service is one of the DP's priority research areas. In the context of a university hospital, addiction medicine provides an academic basis for mental health policy guidelines, safe and effective clinical interventions in the community, outpatient clinics and hospitalisations the population concerned. We are seeking a Professor of addiction medicine with solid clinical expertise in addiction medicine, particularly with experience and interest in public health. The ideal candidate will excel in multidisciplinary collaboration and supervision, while managing interactions with various CHUV departments and healthcare partners.

Main missions:

  • Manage the service and assume overall medical responsibility
  • Organise and supervise addiction medicine care and interventions
  • Coordinate undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing education
  • Develop and guide academic activities in line with the university's mission
  • Create a new generation of hospital-academic staff and ensure an institutional role for the DP and the CHUV

NB: As part of the structural reorganisation of the DP, the scope of the Service is set to change. Therefore, the new Head will be involved in this process.

Desired profile:

  • Federal medical degree (or recognized MEBEKO qualification required) and MD or MD-PhD
  • Two possible profiles:
    • Specialist title in general internal medicine (ISFM or equivalent recognised MEBEKO mandatory)
    • Specialist title in psychiatry and psychotherapy (ISFM or equivalent recognised MEBEKO mandatory)
  • Addictions: Additional training such as Advanced training in addiction psychiatry (ISFM or equivalent), Continuing medical education certificate in addiction medicine, or the European Addiction Medicine Diploma (EAMD).
  • Solid clinical experience in addiction medicine, in managing large clinical projects and ability to develop new ones
  • Recognised managerial skills in leading and managing a large/multi-site team and extensive experience in project management
  • Academic knowledge and expertise at professorial level with proven experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and ability to set up clinical research programs supported by external expert funding
  • Good knowledge of French (LM or C1 ideal, minimum B2 with ability to learn quickly).
  • Strong institutional commitment and a strong ability to unite and motivate employees
  • Proven track record of exemplary professional conduct: the successful candidate must demonstrate integrity and compliance with the legal and regulatory requirements of the position.
