Head Physician with an Associate Professor title

in the field of clinical research in internal hospital medicine

Starting date: 1.1.2026                       Working rate: 80%                  Place: Lausanne, Switzerland

The Service of internal medicine (SIM) at the CHUV is looking for a senior physician and Associate Professor in clinical research. This position offers an opportunity for an academic internist to develop clinical research in the field of quality of care and Smarter Medicine, in line with the established priorities of the development plan of SIM.

The ideal profile is that of a dynamic and innovative person who can strengthen and develop clinical research within the service in the fields of quality of care, implementation of Smarter Medicine or Safety and Quality, ideally in partnership with patients and in an interprofessional manner. The candidate will also be responsible for supervising clinical units and will integrate a dynamic team of senior physicians with diverse academic and clinical profiles. The position involves dedicating 60 % of the time to research.

Being hired within SIM will offer the opportunity to advance one's career in research and clinical aspects, with the possibility of working part-time (80%). This will also involve teaching activities at both pre and postgraduate levels in coordination with the responsible of the discipline.

Main missions:

  • Academic (60%):
    • Develop or strengthen clinical research with a focus on quality of care in internal medicine, including obtaining expert research funding and attracting a new generation of physician researchers in this field.
    • Supervise works of master's students, MD or MD-PhD students in the fields of hospital internal medicine.
  • Clinic (15%): Provide clinical supervision to patients hospitalized in the Internal Medicine Service. Develop and maintain leading-edge clinical expertise in internal medicine.
  • Management (5%): Contribute to the efficient running of the Internal Medicine Service by helping to define clinical development objectives in line with the Service's strategy.

Desired profile:

  • Swiss medical degree (or equivalent title recognized by MEBEKO) and MD or MD-PhD.
  • ISFM specialist title in general/internal medicine (or equivalent title recognized by MEBEKO).
  • Professorial-level academic knowledge with a proven track record in university teaching and ability to set up clinical research programs that can be supported by expert external funding.
  • Extensive and recognized clinical experience in general/internal medicine.
  • Previous management experience as a senior physician in a university hospital.
  • Proficiency in French (level at least B2, C1 ideally) or ability to acquire it quickly.
