Isabelle Decosterd

Isabelle Décosterd, MD, has developed and directed the Pain Center of the University Hospital of Lausanne until Dr. Marc R. Suter took over the helm in 2023. She designed the Center on the base of its three clinical, scientific and teaching dimensions, including a substantial activity in fundamental neuroscience at the DNF. Her scientific work was focused on the mechanisms of chronic neuropathic pain, especially in the context of altered neuronal excitability and posttranslational dysregulation of voltage gated sodium channel in injured and non-injured neurons.
She has also supported and fostered clinical research from bed side to bench and vice versa and favored a mechanism-based approach to ameliorate evaluation and treatment of patients suffering from acute and chronic pain. She now works on a voluntary basis to pursue a translational gene therapy a project design to alleviate neuropathic pain.
