Maria explored local axonal and synaptic translatomes for their involvement in the preservation of circuit integrity in Drosophila. A combination of ribosomal pulldowns, transcriptomic profiling, and automated behavior scoring led to the identification of candidates involved in protein ubiquitination and calcium homeostasis. Importantly, local protein synthesis per se is also required for severed projections to sustain themselves. Here’s our preprint.
