dSarm is involved in innate immunity during development and in axon degeneration induced by injury. However, whether dSarm signaling is similar or divergent in these two contexts remains to be determined.
This study–led by the Brohier lab–revealed that some dSarm protein domains are required for innate immunity and axon degeneration. In contrast, other protein domains are dispensable for innate immunity but required for axon degeneration.
