Annemiek is a PhD student in the laboratory of Prof. Verhage (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, the Netherlands). She aims to understand the essential roles of the presynaptic protein MUNC18-1 and how mutations therein lead to a severe neurodevelopmental disorder.
She joined the Neukomm laboratory in February and March 2021 as a visiting scientist to identify drugs that restore MUNC18-1 function in a high-throughput compound screen in Drosophila. This Neukomm/Verhage joint project is generously funded by a Million Dollar Bike Ride Pilot Grant, a fundraising event where 750 cyclists raised money for rare diseases.
