The Dura laboratory identified a chemokine involved in the developmental pruning of neurites. We show that this chemokine, Orion, is essential for phagocytic activation of glial cells to clear axonal and synaptic debris, specifically during developmental pruning but not in injury-induced axon degeneration in Drosophila.
