We recently unravelled a mechanism whereby reactive astrocytes, use Homer1a as a molecular switch to limit the spreading of toxic glutamatergic gliotransmission, thus protecting themselves and the neighboring cells from excitotoxic cell death in pathological conditions such as hypoxia-ischemia.
